Setting or style property to turn off stock icons?
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: gtk+ Severity: normal Version: 1 Synopsis: cant remove default circus theme on gtk buttons Bugzilla-Product: gtk+ Bugzilla-Component: gtk Description: Description of Problem: The gtk buttons have little red and green balls. Bad choice to have this as default, and I cant find a way to switch it off. (I think there was a way to switch it off in gnome 1.x but i am now using gtk2 and gnome2). Expected Results: A PROFESSIONAL _OR_ NEUTRAL DEFAULT LOOK.. thanks :) Although my 4 year old daughter loves the theme... ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2002-04-08 08:40 ------- Reassigning to the default owner of the component, gtk-bugs@gtk.org.

CCing usability-maint. It would be nice if some of the other usability people could comment here as well. From duped bug 104406: Including icons in the stock buttons leads to dialogs that look unprofessional and confusing, because custom buttons usually will not have icons. I've not talked to one person on the ui team that likes including the icons, and neither windows or the mac have buttons with icons.
Note that "piling on" to a bug when there isn't actually something to say is not really considered helpful behavior. :-)
I kind of like the icons on buttons, and I'm not much bothered that there aren't icons on every single button. I think you'd have to take this to a list to get agreement for such a big change.
