Suppose you are running gedit and you want to do the "_Copy" operation,
this time
using the keyboard and the menus.
For the POSIX locale, you would press "Alt+E" to open the "_Edit" menu.
Then, you would press "C" for "_Copy". 
However, if the "_Copy" string is translated and you have another
keyboard active (the proper keyboard for the mentioned character), 
the "Copy" menu item is not selected and the operation is not
performed.

It appears that only latin character sets are recognised.
