Description Andreas Allacher 2009-08-22 10:56:56 UTC
Hi,

this is not that important but sometimes it would be nice to search for the filename, e.g. if the file you want to find is wrongly tagged but is easy to find by the filename and you want to find it to re-tag it.
Of course, you could add them to a playlist by drag & drop and re-tag them that way and that is why this isn't so important.

[ From http://bugs.debian.org/544121 ]

"I have a great deal of music that does not obey standard ID3 naming
conventions, because those conventions are useless for classical and
esoteric music. Since it's hard to deal with arbitrary tags in the
player, could Rhythmbox perhaps use "filename" as a full-featured
field?

For example, I have 32 files whose Title is "Le Nozze di Figaro".
They come in a defined order, but Rhythmbox doesn't know that. There
is no "Artist" (although there is a "Composer", a "Conductor", several
"Performers", etc...). Here's an example filename:

  Mozart - K.492 Le Nozze di Figaro - (25) Ecco la marcia.ogg

It would be really great to allow the playlist to manipulate filename
(not URL or Location, or possibly Location with the
"file:///home/ben/music" trimmed off the beginning...)."

Nevermind the above comment, this request is for the search, while the above is for a new column (different than the path one)
Comment 3 Serrano Pereira 2010-03-10 23:54:22 UTC
[From Bug 531353]

"I'm using Rhythmbox 0.12.7 on Ubuntu Karmic, and I'm really missing this
feature. This feature could be very useful, even if all your music files do
have the correct song information.

I for instance, mainly listen to Asian music which includes Japanese, Korean
and Chinese. So most of my music files contain song information with
Chinese/Korean/Japanese characters in Unicode format. So searching for a song
is very cumbersome, because I would have to somehow remember and type in the
Unicode characters (which I can't and won't). To get around this, I simply
named all my files with the romanization of the corresponding song and artist.
For instance, if I have a music file with the following information:
Artist: 이수영
Song: 라라라
I would name this file: "Lee Soo Young - LaLaLa.ogg"

If the feature for searching file names was implemented, I could just search
for "LaLaLa" or "Lee Soo Young" (which is much easier to remember and type!)."
