GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 559521
Allow search by filename/path directly
Last modified: 2018-05-24 13:46:38 UTC
One interesting feature request from a friend I've almost converted to using Rhythmbox. ;) Please include a possibility to use the search bar to search by a song's full filepath or genre of song! I have a collection of correctly tagged Jpop songs, but I'll be darned if I can type/spell their titles, authors or record names - they're not in Latin letters. I also have a handful of .mids and other files that have no tags by nature and have a badly searchable filename (the paths also occasionally differ from the standard of the rest of the collection, because they're included e.g. from games' background music directories directly). I can't keep track of these files in Rhythmbox by any other information than their genre. It seems that even though I'm using the "guess tags by filename+path" heuristic setting, I can't search the Jpop files (maybe because they're tagged already), and the .mid files are hopeless in multiple ways because of the varying directory structures they're from. Thanks for all the effort that's gone into this sweet piece of software! (PS. This is unrelated to bug #319556 in f-spot, although it can also be found by searching for rhythmbox and filename.)

There are various more reasons to add this feature. - badly tagged files - not tagged files (midi, wav etc.) - files grouped by something else than is shown in the tags (for example you have a directory of 'party' songs, or a directory with covers and their originals) This will come handy for everybody who has a nice directory layout for their music.
