GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 530064
'Never prompt or start programs' checkbox
Last modified: 2012-08-16 13:38:04 UTC
The 'never prompt or start programs' in the Media pane of Nautilus' preferences is confusing. Due to its position, it appears to be subordinate to the controls above it; however it actually enables/disables them en-masse. Also its is labelled as a 'negative' preference (enabling it actually disables functionality!) I would re-arrange the contents of the Media tab so that the subordinate controls are in a frame with the checkbox at the top: ________| Media |__________________________________________________ [x] browse media when inserted +-| [x] automatically start applications on media insertion |-+ | | | Media handling - choose what happens, etc.. | | CD Audio: | Open CD Audio Extractor | | | DVD Video: | Open Movie Player | | | | etc.
See bug 528675 for a patch to fix this slightly differently. We ship that patch in F9.
Hm, I didn't realise that the 'browse media when inserted' checkbox controlled whether the other options did anything as well! If that's the case then they should all grey out when 'browse media when inserted' is toggled too.
They should probably be indented too.
I don't think we have this setting anymore.
