The charts look totally broken, increasing severity.
Comment 3 Daniel Llano 2008-03-15 08:30:43 UTC
I have just the same problem but I have it with any locale even with no locale settings.
A S Alam, Could you confirm that you do not see the problem with C locale?
Comment 4 Benoît Dejean 2008-03-15 10:27:33 UTC
Are you running compiz ?
Comment 5 Daniel Llano 2008-03-15 11:02:07 UTC
I am not running compiz.
I am using software from Debian experimental:
gnome-system-monitor_2.22.0-1
libc6_2.7-9
libcairo2_1.5.8-1
libglib2.0-0_2.16.1-1
libgtk2.0-0_2.12.9-2
libpango1.0-0_1.20.0-1

No, I am also not using compiz.
I have fedora rawhide (newly released gnome-2-22
Comment 9 Daniel Llano 2008-03-17 10:03:17 UTC
I do not have the problem anymore with either C or es_ES locales.
Some of the libraries from Debian experimental that I updated may have solved the problem.
A S Alam, are you still having the same problem with Punjabi locale?
Could you try to update to the latest libraries?
Comment 10 A S Alam 2008-03-17 10:16:42 UTC
I have fully update system (which ever available in Fedora rawhide).
but still have issue.
can you please mention any particular lib?

I still have the same libraries I posted before (maybe the problem is in another one) and as you can see they are the same versions you have.
I do not know why the background color changes to black when the problem happens.
I do not know where the problem is and now that I can not reproduce it I will not be able to help.

This has also been reported in ubuntu hardy beta.

Comment 13 Benoît Dejean 2008-03-28 08:53:37 UTC
Well, the bug reported in ubuntu seems to happen even with C
Comment 14 Toby Dacre 2008-03-28 15:01:16 UTC
hmm,

I'm slightly confused. The initial bug seemed to be about text appearing as square boxes as indicated by yellow lines in the attachment of comment #1.

_initial bug_
Description of problem:
Application is showing Square box, while run it in Punjabi locale.

Expected results:
should be text in Language

This looked like a translation issue the translation appears to have been fixed ~2 weeks ago I think by the bug reporter or someone with a similar name.

The bug report now seems to have moved onto the black screen which I imagine is not locale related hence the ubuntu hardy bug report with some English locale.

Maybe this (black screen) should be moved to a separate bug and this closed if the translation has fixed things. Or be renamed

Incidentally last night I was on my pc reading all the ISO OOXML fun with g-s-m running in the background with Firefox half covering g-s-m. g-s-m was on the process tab. For unknown reason, every so often the process list would go black for maybe 1 second. I have no idea why this might be and have not noticed this with any other applications. It was random and so hard to be sure of why it was caused but maybe happened once every 30-120 seconds. It did not happen when g-s-m was fully visible. I could not trigger it. top showed nothing suspicious. This is from the latest head version of g-s-m on ubuntu gutsy, nvidia driver. The graphs are fine (if using too much cpu)

Are we doing something bad with cairo? the graph stuff seems clean from what I can see. GTK should be or else many other applications would suffer similar results which I'm not aware of. Maybe the custom colour pickers/pies are doing something? I haven't ever really looked at them in much detail are they not cleaning up after themselves or something? I admit they look fine in the screen shots. This is just me thinking aloud ;)

As another data point, I see this same problem on FreeBSD amd64 regardless of locale. That is, the background is black, and the fonts are unreadable. On two FreeBSD i386 systems, the display is fine.

g-s-m 2.22.0
cairo 1.4.14
cairomm 1.4.8
gtk+ 2.12.9
gtkmm 2.12.7

it is not Fixed yet. Translation is complete (so no issue with Translation).
Tested with:
gnome-system-monitor-2.22.0-1.fc9.i386

Primary issue is like: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398368 (gnome-power-manager)

which is closed as duplicate: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=418605

but this Bug is NOT duplicate of that
Comment 19 Benoît Dejean 2008-04-17 08:19:34 UTC
