GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 339864
Dragging from address bar to nautilus copies, instead of linking
Last modified: 2006-09-04 00:22:29 UTC
When I hover over the page icon in the address bar, the tooltip says "Drag and drop this icon to create a link to this page". However, when I drag it to the desktop, nautilus copies the .html file to the desktop, instead of creating a link that I can click on to open the original website. I think this used to work in an older Gnome. In contrast, dragging a hyperlink from within a webpage to the desktop does work correctly, creating a "link to <blah>" icon on the desktop. It is possible that this is a bug in nautilus, not epiphany. I'm guessing it's ephy's fault given that the hyperlink dragging does work - ephy must be doing something different for the address bar dragging.
Mentionned on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/42923 too which points that "Dragging an icon from firefox works however."
Confirmed with epiphany 2.14.1 and nautilus 2.14.1. This looks like a nautilus problem to me. The drag from epiphany's url bar icon has these target: _NETSCAPE_URL text/uri-list text/plain and firefox these: text/x-moz-url _NETSCAPE_URL text/unicode text/plain text/html

Has there been any progress on this? This is still tripping me up on a day-to-day basis, I don't want to have to use Firefox :(
In 2.15, dragging to to the desktop does nothing at all for me even :( Dragging to folders exhibits the described behaviour. Possible workaround: drag to panel instead.
I don't use a panel, so, unfortunately, this isn't a possible work-around for me :)
This should just have been resolved as part of bug 347673.
