GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 330235
several mimetypes have no special icon after upgrade
Last modified: 2010-04-27 13:20:28 UTC
The bug has been described on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/30704 "Gedit shows an icon according to the mime-type of the file you are editing. I can't get this feature to work properly in latest dapper: it seems that all my tabs, no matter the content, show up with the "text file" icon. http://librarian.launchpad.net/1558920/gedit.png Screenshot showing that gedit in latest dapper wrongly uses text icons for all my open documents. http://librarian.launchpad.net/1558931/gedit-breezy.png Screenshot showing the right behavior: gedit, in breezy, using the same files. I've added after/before screenshots. Sorry about the theme inconsistency, I add to use different computers to take the screenshots. However I tested with several themes and the problem remains."

And what we will do with these?
Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 - Gnome 2.20.1 I confirm this problem with the application/x-bittorrent .torrent icon
Nice Blender icon on: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=533901 There's a bug on Launchpad on this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-icon-theme/+bug/80229
We're not providing mimetype icons for everything anymore.
Actually the correct way of dealing with mimetype icon request would be to put them into the extras subcomponent. These bugs get a low priority by default and end up in the optional gnome-icon-theme-extras module. I'm keeping this bug closed as it's not requesting a specific filetype icon. Please file specific mimetype enhancement bugs to gnome-icon-theme, extras subcomponent.
