GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 533901
No blender files icon
Last modified: 2010-03-29 16:37:38 UTC
There was an icon for .blend files in the past, but now, with the new theme, there is no more, only an defaut (empty) icon. Other information:
Created attachment 111173 [details] New .blend and .blend1 icons. So I made new icons for .blend and .blend1 (.blend autobackup) following the new theme style. Those are scalable and all size rasterized. Cheers.
this is a duplicate of 330235
What are the mime types for these files and why aren't they using the generic image icon? A generic '3D model/whatever' icon might be pertinent, but we won't be including branded specific mime type icons.
Ok, thanks for comment. I am doing new icons, without brand. You said to prefer a generic 3D icon, but blender is not generic 3D in linux. Like XCF (gimp) is not a generic image. I work with blender and, in my humble opinion, it is easier to see in a folder a .blend file with different icon from other 3d files (to import or exported), like .obj, .3ds, etc... So I will follow your suggestion and I will to do icons for .blend, .blend1 (without brand) and a generic 3D icon. I hope you agree with my idea and I hope to help with that (because that with help me too ;] ) Cheers.
Created attachment 112352 [details] .blend and generic3d file icon proposal Now we are talking!!! The new proposal for .blend, .blend1 and generic3d ( .3ds, .ac, .dae, .lwo, md2, md3, md5, .fbx, .iv, .xsi, .wrl, .x3d, .slp, .obj, etc). I don't know how to do the mime type. If you accept that, I can send to you the svg file and the other sizes. Cheers.
Created attachment 112357 [details] blender project mime type icon I use this for blender files (unzip in ~/.hicolor/*/mimetypes/)
We're trying to avoid using the paper sheet for things that aren't generally on standard portrait paper. 3D modeller data would probably be better as a cube without the paper sheet, and using a partial wireframe for the cube as well. Also, the icon will need to be licensable as LGPLv2.1+ as we will be relicensing gnome-icon-theme to that soon.
Hi Rodney... where can I pic that standart portrait paper svg image? You are right! I only have the ubuntu (human theme) icon has base. I am new in all that stuff, but I really want to collaborate. Where or how can I license the icons? Do I need to do that after approved? Are you the responsible to approve that? Style questions. - Where can I have more informations about the gnome default theme "rules"? (and ubuntu?) - I did a cube with a line thickness. Do I need to change that? (The icons are too much ubuntu human, and not tango or whatever, i think) That is all for now... After you answer me, I will change (again ;] ) the icon. Man, now I'm decided to get my icons approved! (I hope :] ) Cheers
An icon for blend files is in gnome-icon-theme-extras, we're not going to add it to gnome-icon-theme, sorry. Closing.
