GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 328107
No nfs:// support
Last modified: 2008-09-06 18:54:52 UTC
This bug has been opened on https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-vfs2/+bug/29263 "Once, some time ago, gnome-vfs had support for nfs:// URLs. At some point there wasn't anyone maintaining it and it got broken so it just configured out. I tried out KDE for a few days and found that it had nfs:// support in it's kio stuff and it worked famously. It would be nice to see nfs:// support in gnome-vfs again."
SEND PATCHES! :)
I've started wondering why the NFS method was disabled, and started to scratch an itch... this is my first try so the code might be crap, but it seems to work.
Created attachment 59035 [details] [review] Patch for nfs-method.c
Created attachment 59036 [details] [review] Patch for nfs-method.h
Created attachment 59037 [details] [review] Patch to add nfs share display to dns-sd-method
COOL!=) But, no utf8 support
What do you mean with "no utf8 support" ?
It can't display russian symbols in file names
Did the patches get attention already? :-)
Hi, I have tried to apply these patches to Debian eperimental packages, but they do not seem to work, although they do apply right (except the last part of dns-sd-method, but we can see that later). I think I have forgotten something (Makefiles need to be changed etc.), would it be possible to provide a step-by-step guide so as to test these patches? Thanks! Julien
Yes, configure needs some patching too. I'll update the patches against svn as soon as I have some spare time.
I have a working nfs discovery here but it won't browse the share. I couldn't find what was the URI to write for a given share so I couldn't test more.
Any new on this? This is a very important feature missing in current GNOME release. Cheers, Julien
hi, I'd like to work on this problem... as this feature is really missing me on my desktop. I have some questions: - why the bug is still unconfirmed ? may I confirm it ? - are these patch working ? on 2.18 ? on 2.20 ? - did so already try to fix it ? - why it was removed (as I think it worked a long time ago...) ? Thx for all, JV
It seems this bug is related to bug #479944
gnome-vfs has been deprecated and superseded by gio/gvfs since GNOME 2.22, hence mass-closing many of the gnome-vfs requests/bug reports. This means that gnome-vfs is NOT actively maintained anymore, however patches are still welcome. If your reported issue is still valid for gio/gvfs, please feel free to file a bug report against glib/gio or gvfs. @Bugzilla mail recipients: query for gnome-vfs-mass-close to get rid of this notification noise all together.
