Description Sebastien Bacher 2007-09-24 19:54:33 UTC
The bug has been opened on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/24430

"I think it's more a gnome feature but I can't figure out which exact package
give those abilities. Well the fact is that the "connect to server" feature
don't manage NFS shares."
Comment 1 Nick G 2008-05-14 21:11:45 UTC
This is still a problem and makes me sad. Did this get lost in the gnomevfs -> gnomevfs2 -> gvfs transition?

Can i actually browse NFS shares via nautilus?
Comment 2 AnnFS 2008-05-16 00:26:18 UTC
Confirm that the problem exists in Fedora 8. According to Nautilus Help, NFS shares should appear in "UNIX Network". There is a "Windows Network" icon, but no "UNIX Network" icon ... even when there is a NFS share mounted.

It seems this bug is related to bug #328107
Comment 4 shane 2009-04-02 07:25:01 UTC
But #328107 has been auto-closed, but I recommend looking at bug #536292, which seems to have had discussion recently.
Comment 5 Eugene Crosser 2011-02-08 05:42:03 UTC
[This is from my earlier submission to launchpad:]

The bug #536292 is about a different problem; as it is indeed fixed we now have a workaround for the problem described in this report, not a solution to this problem.

This complaint is about NFS shares not being covered by the same Gnome infrastructure that covers SMB, SSHFS and FTP shares, i.e. when you try to "Connect to server", there is no selection for NFS type server, and when you browse network:///, there is "Windows Network" for SMB servers, but no "Unix Network" for NFS servers in the list.
Comment 6 Tomas Bzatek 2012-09-05 12:04:11 UTC
No, we don't support NFS in gvfs. Maybe one day, patches are welcome. But then again, NFS clients coming from non-privileged ports (1025+) are forbidden by default on NFS servers. A root backend would be needed.

Alternatively, Disks (palimpsest) could be the place to configure NFS mounts for fstab. See http://davidz25.blogspot.cz/2012/08/disks-improvements-in-gnome-36.html
