Description Hakon 2003-11-28 11:57:08 UTC
It's sometimes interesting to know remaining time on a song, as opposed to
elapsed time.
This could be done by letting the time display act as a button on mouseover
(as the artist and song title do).
There could be a tooltip telling what it does. When you click the button,
the display changes from "1:30 of 2:45" to "-1:14 [of|to|till] 2:45".

Another style could be to have a context menu instead of the mouseover
button. With such, there could additionaly be options to let
total/elapsed/remaining time reflect the playlist as a whole, instead of
one song only.

Most players out there that I've tried support this, heck my stereo
even supports this.

I actually preffer to view time left than time lapsed.
Comment 2 Bastien Nocera 2003-12-03 23:17:21 UTC
time elapsed [======= ] -time left

That's my preferred way.

Colin, let us know, and I'll provide a patch.

Hm. Personally, I like the idea of toggling more. But it's not a
really strong preference. Do you know what other music/media players
do?

I notice totem uses elapsed/total too :)
Comment 4 Bastien Nocera 2003-12-04 12:09:27 UTC
I'm a bit strapped for space in Totem ;)
There's plenty of room in the controls area for Rhythmbox.
