UI review: The "Open Recent" menu should be renamed to "Regular files"
I'm not sure "Regular files" is the best wording. "Regular" can mean it's somehting used regularly, or it can mean "regular as opposed to irregular." I wouldn't be suprised if a *majority* of users found the second reading more natural. What does Windows and MacOS use for this?
Yeah, I have to say ... I'm not convinced by the wording either
> What does Windows and MacOS use for this? Windows uses "Documents". I like that even less than "Regual Files". Maybe we could use "Recent Documents"? I don't know.
I like "Recent Documents". Is there any final decision for this?
Good suggestion, I prefer the "Recent Documents" to "Open Recent" as the open recent implies an action that isn't necessarily happening. I'm not sure if "Documents" is the best word for the recent items, but I've got nothing else better to suggest. I'd say it looks good to go ahead with, this bug has been open for a while so lets do this and someone can re-open it if they come up with something better.
Agree, "Recent Documents" sounds good to me too.
I agree that "Open Recent" sounds a little odd. However, "Recent Documents" lacks a verb. Shouldn't items in a menu called "Actions" have a verb? How about "Open Recent Documents" ?
Bryan: you told me you would talk about that with Seth. Any results?
Yes, go ahead with "Recent Documents", we can get away with not using a verb in the Actions menu since this isn't really a button that performs and action (rather it displays a list). The root of the problem is really in the "Actions" wording, but we won't get into that in this bug. "Actions" could probably use a different term to describe the random bunch of items that all Desktops need to have easily available for people to use (and don't fit the in Applications menu). Vincent: Go ahead and commit this whenever you get a chance.
This is now fixed in HEAD. Thanks.
