GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 93407
recent documents menu stuff should be more specific
Last modified: 2020-12-04 18:19:55 UTC
Really, the only thing the HIG says about the recent documents menu (AFICT), is that it should be updated immediately when the user opens a doc. IMHO, it should also specify: 1) Maximum number of recent docs in the menu (or at least a default) 2) Whether or not the recent docs should appear in a submenu. Also, I was considering making the max number of items configurable through the control center. What do you guys think about this?
Being realistic, it's probably best not to write these details until we have some reusable Recent Documents functionality in the GNOME APIs. It would just create another HIG-realworld conflict.
People seem to expect the libgegg RecentDocuments stuff to go into libgnomeui for 2.4.
Yeah, Anders seems to think it's ready to go in for 2.4. There are some usability issues that need to be discussed, though. Specifically http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=101881
An ancient and obsolete bug up to a point, but handling recent files sounds like something we might want a 3.x UI pattern for as there's still some inconsistency around. See also bug #93033.
I'd be willing to add a section on recent documents to the menu bars page.
I added something basic to start with. https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-devel-docs/commit/?id=371708bf4e07e6668aff06e12d659a8bd9624940
Thought I'd closed this with comment 6. Apologies for the noise.
