Description Kevin Breit 2002-09-06 01:03:06 UTC
Package: gnome-vfs
Severity: normal
Version: GNOME2.0.1 2.0.2.0.200208181945-0.snap.ximian.1
Synopsis: gnome-vfs won't follow symlinks on FTP
Bugzilla-Product: gnome-vfs
Bugzilla-Component: Module: ftp
Description:
Description of Problem:
ftp.rpmfind.net/linux has some symlinks. The symlinks point to a
subdirectory. For example, rawhide points to A/rawhide . A is a
directory. If you click on rawhide (symlink) it posts an error:

This link can't be used, because it's target "A/rawhide" doesn't exist.
Do you want to put this link in the Trash?

This would be an acceptable error, but A/rawhide does exist. I prove
this using ncftp.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Load Nautilus
2. Point Nautilus to ftp://ftp.rpmfind.net
3. Go to the linux directory and try to click the rawhide directory.

This is not a gnome-vfs bug.

gnome-vfs will correctly go through symlinks (dirs) and even open
symlinks (files) correctly.

Nautilus does not handle symlinks to directories as directories.

Is there something missing in gnome-vfs that prevents nautilus from
doing the right thing (tm)?

Moving to Nautilus in that case, and marking with appropriate keywords
to get it on the radar.
