Description Aidan Fitzpatrick 2002-08-14 22:36:12 UTC
I've spent some time looking at where I should post this, but I've not
found out yet. My problem is with the Window List 1.0 applet in a release
of GNOME 2 downloaded today. I can't find Windows List in this list of
components, but in GNOME 1.x it was called tasklist_applet. Please tell me
if this is the wrong place.

The bug is fairly simple. I don't use horizontally aligned panels. I use a
single vertically-aligned panel on one edge of the screen to give me
maximum downwards reading space. You can see a screenshot of this here:
http://www.waterfans.com/Screenshot-1.png. In the screenshot you can see my
tasklist working properly in GNOME 1.x, and it failing to work in GNOME 2
in the Xnest session. The screenshot is of a much older GNOME 2 release.

The Window List that comes with GNOME 2 doesn't seem to like being in a
vertically aligned panel at all. My assumption is that the ability to do
this was removed to simplify some of the GNOME options.

I'm sure many won't agree with me, but I feel that this was an crucial part
of GNOME's useability. I really don't want a Mac-alike, KDE-alike, or
Win-alike desktop. GNOME 1.x was absolutely perfect in the way that I could
get this.

That aside, the GNOME 2 release is fantastic, so thanks!

Is there any chance that this could be rectified? Am I doing something wrong?
