Simply put you can't do any drag and drop in
between nautilus and it's tree left panel thing,
which if present would be a major productivity

You need to be more specific about which type of drag operation you
are talking about. Drag to and from list view is a know bug (#74974).
Drag from icon view to tree works for me.
