Try this background PNG:

It loads for me but then immidiatly freezes the background preferences
application. You can make it load again by removing or renaming the file so
it doesn't find it.
The PNG is a very small one (one pixel, 2000 pixels high) and is mostly
transparent so this most probably is the reason for the freeze. It is saved
with GIMP default settings and compression (6).
