GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 87260
Keybinding for changing tabs
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: gedit Severity: enhancement Version: 2.0.0 Synopsis: Keybinding for changing tabs Bugzilla-Product: gedit Bugzilla-Component: general Description: It would be nice if there was a keybinding for changing tabs that was equvilant to the gnome-terminal keybinding. Alt-# switches to tab number #. Consistancy between apps is good =) ------- Bug moved to this database by unknown@bugzilla.gnome.org 2002-07-03 11:55 ------- Reassigning to the default owner of the component, maggi@athena.polito.it.
I'm pretty sure this change is already in the post-gnome-2 branch, so it will go in with 2.0.1.
Consistency is good, but the standard keybindings for changing pages are Ctrl+PageUp and Ctrl+PageDown. Alt+# should be regarded as a bug.
In GtkTextView, Ctrl+PageUp and Ctrl+PageDown are used to go to the begining and to the end of the current text line. IMO, this is a conflict that should be solved. Any idea?
cc'ing usability since the HIG standards are theirs, and clearly conflicting with gtktextview is Not Good.
This is certainly a problem we need to think about, and I think it's a bit wider than the clashing keynav problem. I've opened bug #87764 against the HIG for this. In the meantime it sounds like Paolo has recently implemented what Matt asked for, so probably safe to close this and worry about the bigger picture separately.
