System : Redhat linux 7.1 on an Dell Poweredge. Now, il very very very slow to display gnome on a Terminal X. If I launch a gnome terminal , it crashes (with floating exception ). So I can't work (no shell terminal). Any other application crashes with fault segmentation. Debugging Information: (no debugging symbols found)...0x2b0ea319 in __wait4 () from /lib/libc.so.6

Make sure you have gnome-libs-1.4.1.7 or newer. Also try removing ~/.gnome/Terminal and disabling "Support for multibyte" in the terminal settings if it comes up after removing that file. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 17440 ***
