Description Calum Benson 2002-06-17 18:09:07 UTC
The following issues came out of the recent ui-review and are recommended
for fixing prior to GNOME 2.0.1:

- Message text should be "There is no application associated with
"filename". You can configure GNOME to associate applications with file
types. Do you want to associate an application with this file type now?"
Buttons are currently "Cancel" and "Yes"-- should be "Cancel" and
"Associate Application". [I think this wording is still too clumsy and
technical, but agree the current wording needs fixing-- CFB]

-Message box title should be "No Application Associated" rather than "No A
pplications Available". (Think HIG now recommends no title for message
boxes, actually.)

- Icon and mnemonic needed on Choose button.

- Don't refer to "GNOME Control Center" in dialog, we don't have one any
more.

- 'View as Other' shouldn't be a modal dialog.

- Title should match menu item, i.e. "Open with Other Application"

- "Choose application with which..." should end with colon, not period
Comment 1 Calum Benson 2002-06-17 18:11:27 UTC
Also, in the Open with Other Application->Modify dialog:

- replace all occurrences of "just" with "only": specifically,
suggest "Include in the menu for "<filename>" only" and "Use as
default for "<filename>" only

Adding keywords to all ui-review bugs in one mass change, sorry for the spam. It
would be very nice if the folks doing UI review stuff would be sure to add
'PATCH' to the bugs that have those. I'm (tentatively) not marking these 'high'
but the release team [having gotten approval from the docs and i18n people]
would like to see these in ASAP on the 2.0.1 branches, so that i18n folks can
start translating at their convenience.

I committed a fix for all of these but the modality. I'm leaving this
open for the modality issue, but I'm dropping it down from urgent
since it is no longer a string freeze problem.
Comment 5 Eugene O'Connor 2002-08-06 09:51:48 UTC
Updated User Guide docs with these changes.
Comment 6 Luis Villa 2002-08-06 19:30:34 UTC
Modality still sucks :)
Comment 7 Calum Benson 2003-11-25 17:37:33 UTC
16 months later, it still sucks :) Ping?

Attaching a patch, that makes the dialog non modal. The patch also
solves bug 124651. Thanks
