This is a known bug that is being worked on. Hopefully, it will be fixed in GNOME 1.4.1. In the meantime, if you're using Red Hat Linux, please try the gnome-libs and gnome-core packages available at http://www.gnome.org/~kmaraas and see if those help. If you do choose to install these packages, it would be a really great help to us if you report back the results. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 59500 ***
Please tell us what version of gettext you have and what your locale is. You could try choosing Posix/C as language when you log into GNOME and see if that makes the problem go away.
Hi, I'm running RH 7.2 with gettext-0.10.38-7. My locale is en_GB. LANG=en_GB.ISO-8859-1 GDM_LANG=en_GB.ISO-8859-1 Cheers, Tim Allen.
Does it go away if you choose Posix/C locale in gdm at login?
OK, I have switched to Posix/C and I will notify you if I get this bug again with that setting. (It's pretty random - happens probably about 1 in five sessions or so)
Hi, yeah it seems to be alright when using POSIX/C - I had one panel crash in like a few weeks. Now I've switched to French and the same crash (as above) has just happened.
Thanks for investigating this. We'll add this to our information about this bug...
