Problem:

Currently, if gnome-system-log is not SUID and you have
secured logfiles, gnome-system-log won't let the user
look at the system log.  

We ought to support a mechanism like red-carpet has
where a root password request dialog pops up if the
program is not being run by root.

Punting for 2.0. sorry ;)
There is another bug related to this though...the need for better
error messages [#76685] that we definitely want to fix for 2.0.

Agreed with Glynn, but this would be really nice, though. Needs a
redcarpet style dialog.
