gdk-pixbuf 2.36.12 cannot be built from the tarball without skipping the test suite - it fails with:

ERROR: pixbuf-jpeg - Bail out! ERROR:pixbuf-jpeg.c:131:test_at_size: assertion failed (error == NULL): Failed to open file ?/src/gnome/gdk-pixbuf/work/gdk-pixbuf-2.36.12/tests/bug753605-atsize.jpg?: No such file or directory (g-file-error-quark, 4)

This is because bug753605-atsize.jpg isn't included in the tarball, as it's not listed in tree/tests/Makefile.am or tree/tests/meson.build. Doing "make distcheck" as part of the release process should detect this kind of problem.
