GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 794953
Accounts tab is too small for title - not so with other tabs
Last modified: 2018-06-30 00:06:59 UTC
In 3.0, the Chart of Accounts tab, labeled "Accounts" is too narrow. It shows as "Acc...nts". (which is a bit silly since there are three period characters holding the place of two actual letters) There is no way I can see to resize the tab. Other tabs created as a result of opening accounts or running reports do not suffer this. Their tabs seem to have no problem sizing to display the entire tab label.

Looking at this...
Hopefully fixed in PR336 For information the tab widths can be set under preferences/windows/'tab width' There was a problem that shorter labels were getting ellipsized when they should not.
The fix for this has been committed to our repository and will appear in gnucash 3.1. Thanks Bob!
Does the fix auto-size the CoA tab (or other short labels) along with the others, or is the fix simply to set a fixed tabbed size in preferences/windows/'tab width'?
What should happen and the fix should fix is if the text label is shorter than the preference tab width, the tab width is set to the label text size. If the text is longer than the preference tab width then it get ellipsized and the tab width set to preference width.

Sweet. Thanks Bob!

Two options: 1. Revert to gnucash 2.6.21, unless you really need new features in gnucash 3.0 2. You can find nightly builds for Windows here: https://code.gnucash.org/builds/win32/maint/ There are still known issues with the nightly builds so please use them with caution. As soon as the blocking issues are fixed, 3.1 will be released.

Loaded 3.1. Works OK on my windows setup. Many thanks.
(In reply to mark from comment #12) > Loaded 3.1. Works OK on my windows setup. > Many thanks. I am happy with 3.1.2 as well - it seems 2 problems are solved: 1- Accounts tab is too small for title - not so with other tabs 2- resizing the column of "Balance" thank you
