Description Federico 2018-01-19 19:01:04 UTC
One of the main enhancements added to mutter for the 3.26 cycle, at least according to the release notes, were the smooth transition animations for windows when switching between half-tiling, maximized and custom size window sizes (and between left-side and right-size half-tiling), but I found that those animations are actually being showed just for apps running on Xwayland in a Wayland session (or for all apps when running in a X.org session), while apps running on Wayland just have a simpler fade out / fade in animation between the two window states and the real transition animation isn't showed.
So, is this a known limitation (just temporary, I hope) of Wayland/mutter's Wayland backend or a real bug?
In the first case, maybe it'd be nice to document this limitation for apps running on Wayland, although it'd be strange that a new window manager feature is not available using the currently default display server.
