Report MacOS shows after GIMP 2.8.10 crashes (72.00 KB, text/plain)

Description Christine 2018-01-11 10:52:50 UTC
Hi there,

my problem occurred after a recent upgrade to Mac OS 10.12 Sierra.
GIMP Version 2.8.2

GIMP works fine apart from taking _all_ keyboard input as shortcuts. This makes e.g. renaming in the saving-dialog impossible as well as many other things.
Only a few keys are still working (I guess those who are not part of a shortcut)

I have found this problem reported in earlier versions of GIMP and Mac OS but it seems to have reappeared.

What I already tried:
- resetting shortcuts to default version
- disenabling all shortcuts and reenabling
- changing the "focus on active image" - option. Neither option worked.
- reinstalling GIMP
- installing GIMP 2.8.22 (crashed at each application start, so I deinstalled it)

I was lucky being able to recreate my individual shortcuts because I had saved a copy of the menurc file.

Apart from the above I am not a very skillful user, so if anyone reads this please write back to me in the simplest language you can use :-)
Any help is much appreciated - I am a photographer who relies on and loves the GIMP.

Best
Christine

This is fixed in more recent versions of GIMP, see bug 710943.

Your best approach would be to check why 2.8.22 crashes for you (if it was a crash, that is - some people interpret the font cache build delay as one of those).

Hi Michael,
thanks.
I installed GIMP 2.8.10 as in bug 710943 mentioned.
It installed, showed all windows but crashes each time I open an image (no matter if xcf or jpg).
When crashing there is a report shwon. I saved it as txt-file. I try to attach it to my original post.

Report MacOS shows after GIMP 2.8.10 crashes

GIMP 2.8.10 crashes while opening images.
System: Mac OS 10.12.6
Comment 4 Christine 2018-01-11 11:58:25 UTC
I found another version of GIMP 2.8.18 "for Sierra" and will try this and then report back.
Comment 5 Christine 2018-01-11 12:14:34 UTC
Ok, problem solved. The 2.8.18 Version on http://gimp.lisanet.de/Website/Download.html workes fine.

Suggestion: put a link to that site on gimp.org?

I have been googling three days and maybe other sierra users would benefit from that version.

Thank you all for your effort! Made a donation today.

2.8.10 just happened to be the current version when this bug was solved, I didn't intend for you to install that version.

2.8.22 works for many people on OS X, so the thing to figure out would be why it crashes for you - somewhere in the color management handling, btw. Do you use any special color profiles on your system?
Comment 7 Christine 2018-01-11 14:44:56 UTC
Yes, I color calibrate my iMac display with software by Datacolor and their calibration device Spyder5. And my secondary display with Eizo software.

I am completely fine with 2.8.18 from lisanet.de now. Seems to work.

But if it's worth the trouble finding out more about why version 2.8.22 crashes on my system please tell me how I can help.

Christine, can you rename all GIMP config folders in your
home directory and try if this makes 2.8.22 work for you?

They are called .gimp-2.8 .gimp-2.6 etc. Please also rename
the old ones because GIMP tries to migrate old settings
on first start.
