GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 792094
Lock screen shield appears when lock screen is disabled
Last modified: 2018-01-10 21:15:34 UTC
On my computers i use the function "switch monitor off" and the function "lock screen" in combination.
For the function I use a value of 1 minute. The lock screen is turned off.
energy > switch monitor off > 1 minute
privacy > lock screen off
After 1 minute the monitor is switched off by the desktop enviroment as expected.
Now the problem appears. When turning on the monitor again the lock screen shield is shown, even if it was turned off with the setting described above.
To activate the desktop again now are two steps needed: Reactivate the screen by touching the mouse, trackpad or keyboard and swipe away the lock screen shield by
scrolling the mouse, swipe the trackpad or using the escapüe or enter key.
As i understand the description of the setting the lock screen shield should not be shown, when "lock screen off" is turned on.
Is there any way to configure the lock sreen shield in a way that it is only shown when thew computer is really locked?
The problem would be reproduced with the current distributions of Ubuntu and Fedora.

No, that setting disables the screen lock (that is, the need to identify yourself after dismissing the screen shield), but not the shield that is activated when the session becomes idle.
There is currently a redesign of the lock screen in the works that may change that, but right now the shield is working as designed.
Thank you for your information about the redesign of the lock screen.
I searched the documentation and tried to find a configuration setting in dconf and gnome-tweak-tool, how to disable the screen shield. Is there any possibility to disable the screen shield somehow?
