Screenshot of OSD glitch

When changing the volume and/or brightness with hardware keys or the system menu (top right corner of gnome-shell), there is a graphical glitch on the OSD.

This happens only when animations are turned ON. When animations are OFF, there is no graphical glitch. This bug started (for me) since Gnome 3.22 and is still present on Gnome 3.26 (Fedora 27). This bug also happens on Ubuntu 17.10.

See the attachment for the glitch. This happens on all resolutions for me (1366x768, 1920x1200). I have no extensions, only vanilla Gnome. This also happens on all shell-themes and icon-themes.

I see it too. It seems to happen when starting 'play' on youtube or launching mpv.

Running 3.26.2 on Debian buster (testing).

Observed the glitch with the brightness OSD, but not with volume in a wayland session. Both behaved as expected after turning off all gnome extensions. When turning them back on the bug did not reappear.

List of used extensions:

 * Alternate Tab
 * Apt update indicator
 * Gpaste
 * Hibernate status button
 * Media Player indicator
 * Pomodoro
 * Removable drive menu
 * Simple Net Speed
 * Topicons plus
 * Shellshape

No extensions here but on Xorg, a quick 'alt-f2 -> r' fixes the OSD volume slider.
Comment 4 lof 2017-11-19 21:24:40 UTC
Additional infos for my system:

* Screen resolution: 1600x900px (14")
* no scaling
* DPI: 12.2" × 6.86" = 83.75in² (30.99cm × 17.43cm = 540.33cm²) at 131.13 PPI (calculated)
Comment 5 Kadir 2017-11-20 08:04:59 UTC
I have no extensions running, it happens on my laptop with 1366x768 and desktop (1920x1200) and with dual monitors (dual 1920x1200).

But only when animations are ON. I have never seen the glitch when animations are OFF
Comment 6 lof 2017-11-25 15:35:44 UTC
Got it again, this time in a wayland with the volume OSD.

The OSD only moves when the volume is over 50%.
Comment 7 lof 2017-11-25 15:40:03 UTC
The same is true for the other OSDs.

I think that's a different issue. In the attached screenshot, the scale edges lose their rounding.

You are right. This was meant for Bug 772287. Sorry.
Comment 10 GNOME Infrastructure Team 2021-07-05 14:19:12 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
