Description florin.arjocu 2017-11-08 04:32:20 UTC
I tried to set my laptop not to suspend when closing the lid, I want it to download some files and not have the lid open, but it seemed to be impossible, there is no option for that. I have no idea why not, all OS have this and it is a basic function for a laptop many change it depending on the temporary needs.
A simple select option in Power should exist.

It's available in GNOME Tweaks(was called GNOME Tweak Tool).

I have the same issue.

setting it via gnome tweaks does not work.
Comment 3 Benjamin Berg 2018-02-15 13:27:51 UTC
This issue is about the lack of UI in gnome-control-center to tun off suspend on lid close.

Nicky, could you open a new ticket against gnome-settings-daemon (power plugin)? Please specify the GNOME version you are running and if you do anything other than setting option in "GNOME Tweaks" and closing the lid to reproduce the issue (e.g. is the AC adapter connected).

I have the same issue, running ubuntu 17.10 on a Lenovo P50
Comment 5 Bastien Nocera 2018-04-19 12:18:39 UTC
Reassigning to GNOME Tweaks, there's no way to do this in the Settings on purpose, the only way to stop suspend on lid close is to have an external display.
Comment 6 florin.arjocu 2018-04-19 19:41:55 UTC
I wonder why it is on purpose, what would be the benefit of not being able to set what the laptop will do when closing the lid. It is one of the very basic things every laptop user needs to have access to.
Comment 7 florin.arjocu 2018-04-19 19:43:26 UTC
PS: it should be in the OS, not in some external software, as a workaround. Just like seeing what file is copied at one point (impossible in Files, but that is another discussion).
Comment 8 Jeremy Bicha 2018-04-19 19:56:02 UTC
GNOME Tweaks uses https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-tweaks/issues/ for bugs.

GNOME Tweaks 3.26 and 3.28 has a single switch in its Power panel to allow you to easily disable suspend on lid close.
Comment 9 florin.arjocu 2018-04-19 20:09:49 UTC
Yeah, but those who are new to Linux and have no idea about what Gnome Tweaks is, how will they turn it off? Windows, MacOS, they have it in the OS where it should be from the start. Why should I install something to change a basic behavior of the device I use a few hours a day, instead of having it under my nose? It makes absolutely no sense.
Comment 10 florin.arjocu 2018-04-19 20:12:06 UTC
Instead of having it simpler, it got a lot more complicated. (Google for the solution, install some software, get there and change the setting; every 6 months, on new distribution version, start from step 1;). Simple would be: Settings -> Power -> do what you need.
