I wanted to use the new shared folders feature, but I cannot get it to work.

I've installed the spice-webdavd service (2.2) int the windows 7x64 guest and it started and is running.

I do get the + menu to add a host folder as a shared folder under the properties menu, but the folder list shows (None) and clicking the pulldownn menu does not give a list of folders.
Thherefore it is not possible to add a folder.

I also would like to add that there is no documentation for this (very nice) feature, other than the blog post form the developer tat implemented it.

My OS is ubuntu 17.10 with gnome 3.26.

I was about to file a Documentation bug.

The blog post you mention is this one:
https://alexandruvisarion.wordpress.com/2017/06/15/gnome-boxes-introducing-shared-folders/

It seems to suggest that installing spice-webdavd in the guest is the single requirement needed.
I've just did that on a custom Fedora 27 virtual machine running on regular Fedora 27 host. But I cannot start the service:

$ sudo systemctl start spice-webdavd

$ systemctl status spice-webdavd
 spice-webdavd.service - webdav daemon for Spice guests

I forgot to add that I'm using Boxes 3.26.2. (this feature was added in Boxes 3.25.3)

I've just tried also a Windows box, where I installed again the Spice Guest Tools plus the latest spice-webdavd (2.2) from here:
https://www.spice-space.org/download/windows/spice-webdavd/

I start the service but it's stopped after few seconds.
The error is: “Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly”

It should be this bug:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=781979

I've just tested a Debian sid box, where the spice-webdavd service works fine and the "Spice Client Folder" appears under Network in the file manager (PCManFM), but when I try to set the shared folder in Boxes it seems that nothing is saved:

- I click on +
- Local folder is empty and I cannot change it. This is the problem. Do I need any extra library in the host to make it work? (libphodav is already installed)
- I add a name and save, but nothing appears to be saved
