Description Iain Lane 2017-10-24 15:08:33 UTC
Hey,

See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1726093

In Ubuntu we (currently) don't install the GMenu .gir by default. It turns out that some extensions (like "Arc Menu") require this. When you install them, they fail (I think) silently and it's unclear why the extension isn't working.

It'd be a good enhancement to come up with a way to make this better. At its simplest, this could be something to catch the failed notification or JS error and display a notification - or in the case of import failures it could be integration with Software to actually initiate the installation (maybe that'd require PK work?).

What do you think?

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
