GMime 3.0 was released back in March and offers a bunch of improvements[0], especially for GPG handling.

what's the status on this?  it's been over a year now, and it would be nice to be able to move to the newer version of gmime.

@BrainBlasted has been working on it over on https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/issues/6, you could ask them how it's going and maybe co-ordinate if you're interested in helping out?

I'm hoping to track geary's GMime 3.0 transition specifically over on https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/issues/622 , as https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/issues/6 looks like it got kind of bogged down in a much larger discussion.
