Description kyrios 2017-09-19 07:59:38 UTC
gst-plugins-base with both autotools and meson currently only check for cdparanoia that has been abandoned and hasn't seen any release since 2008:

There is however a fork that is alive : libcdio-paranoia

It would be awesome to update the build scripts to check for libcdio-paranoia (either as an alternative to cdparanoia or to replace it).

We have cdio plugins in -ugly.

cdio is unfortunately GPLv3 licensed, so it's not an option for -base or -good.

Thanks for the quick answer.

My concern is not about cdio, but about paranoia which hasn't seen any update in 9 years and has no activity on its mailing list for years while the version in "libcdio-paranoia" still gets some attention.

I didn't pay attention to the license.

Many common libraries are in a similar situation unfortunately.

Are you having any particular problems with libparanoia?

Does it not work for you in some way?
Comment 4 Tim-Philipp Müller 2017-09-19 16:32:49 UTC
In any case, I think this is a WONTFIX for the time being.
Comment 5 kyrios 2017-09-19 21:48:00 UTC
My issue is just that libparanoia doesn't match our package inclusion policy but libcdio-paranoia is in our repository.

So it's nothing for you. Thanks for the feedback.
