GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 786906
Dnd from desktop to a nautilus view doesn't work (&lock cursor under wayland)
Last modified: 2018-05-02 18:59:29 UTC
Using nautilus 3.25.90 on Ubuntu/GNOME/wayland, desktop rendering is enabled, doing a dnd from a file on the desktop to an open nautilus view doesn't copy the file and the cursor gets stucked in dnd mode until the session is restarted
It works on X, so reassigning for now to gtk+
maybe related https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=785902 In my case the cursor gets stucked in dnd mode too, but it back to normal after some time, I dont need restart my session.
(I post here the same comment I posted for Ubuntu bug #1716277 in Launchpad.net): Same issue on my Ubuntu 17.10 beta (GNOME on Wayland), freshly installed (no upgrade). This happens by dragging any file from desktop to any other window of nautilus. Dragging from nautilus to desktop works. Dragging from nautilus to another nautilus windows works. Cut/Paste from/to desktop works. It's the dragging action from desktop that looks flawed. If useful, here is a screen recording that shows the issue (well, the initial mouse drag and subsequent click attempts are not clearly visible but I think that one can get the idea of the problem): https://www.dropbox.com/s/kjzqucqb7hdcnvy/Screencast_drag_issue_ubuntu-17-10-beta.mp4?dl=0
That issue seems to be hitting quite some users and force they to restart their session which is annoying. It's not specific to the desktop view, some reports mention doing a dnd between thunderbird and nautilus leading to the same lock situation
debugging and patches welcome
(In reply to Aldo Giove from comment #3) Also affects me with the same behavior as showed in your video. The same happens when dragging items (like images) from Firefox to Nautilus, either to a folder window or to the desktop - in this case, the cursor gets stuck in the "hand cursor" when it is over Firefox window, like it is when the cursor is over the desktop in the video. When dragging files both from and to Nautilus, killing Nautilus makes the mouse cursor work again. When dragging from Firefox to Nautilus, killing Firefox also solves it. I am running Ubuntu 17.10 fully updated as of the time of this comment, Nautilus version is 3.26.0. --- I do not know if I am supposed to comment a "me also" type of comment here, but I did not find any button for this. Sorry if I am not supposed to. Thanks.
(In reply to mateus_rachid from comment #6) Forgot to say, I am using the default Wayland session.
