Works here on X11. In any case, that's gnome-shell doing it, not gnome-terminal.

This would most likely be caused by the application not adding the About dialog to the GtkApplication before showing the GtkWindow. If so, I'm not sure that's really a problem, in and of itself, although the fact that it's inconsistent betweeen backends _is_ IMO.
