GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 785513
Gnome tweak tool -> Desktop -> Icons on Desktop switch doesn't work with gnome-shell-classic
Last modified: 2018-01-24 15:24:42 UTC
When using "GNOME Classic", the Icons on Desktop switch makes no difference whether selecting "on" or "off". While with "GNOME Shell", it works well. My system is: openSUSE-42.2-0 gnome-shell 3.20.4 gnome-tweak-tool 3.20.1 I don't know if the problem is related to gnome-tweak-tool or gnome-shell-classic directly. Regards
Created attachment 356502 [details] [review] Probably the best solution would be to not allow the switch to be modified in classic mode but keep it always enabled.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and submit a patch. I think there are two parts to this issue. The first part is requesting that users be able to disable desktop icons in GNOME Classic. See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/695088 and You could also ask your distro to consider taking a patch like this one (for 3.25.4): https://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/pkg-gnome/desktop/unstable/gnome-shell-extensions/debian/patches/dont-require-nautilus-classic.patch?view=markup The second part is dealing with this in gnome-tweak-tool. Maybe gnome-tweak-tool should check whether nautilus-classic is listed in the current mode file too and use that to set whether the switch for desktop icons can be turned off. Other Info ----------- GNOME Classic currently hard codes a lot of features. See also https://bugzilla.gnome.org/783104
