Trying to setup autologin via user preferences in control panel, it does not work. The /etc/gdm/custom.conf seems to contain the right entries, but the password prompt is displayed anyway.

There is this reddit thread [1] and also Fedora BZ confirming this.

This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed in the code repository.

Glad to hear that. I couldn't find such bug, because the I can't see any relation to X11.
