Description SenlinOS 2017-07-11 03:22:33 UTC
GIMP 2.9.5 PPA

Good:
After the polygonal selection completes the operation, you can also adjust the node, and then press Enter to OK.
This is good.

Inconvenient:
But at present, "Free Selection" is the same operation, it is not convenient.
"Free Selection", I prefer to automatically connect.
(There is no need for excessive confirmation.)
Comment 1 SenlinOS 2017-07-11 05:13:20 UTC
GIMP-git has also added a lot of new tools.
The current "Free Selection Tool" is more like a "Polygonal Selection Tool".
So, it's better to add a real "Free Selection Tool".
(No node, automatic connection)

Please look at this painting video:
Real "Free Selection Tool".

I don't think we want even more tools. Proposing WONTFIX. The free
selection tools does polygons just as easy as free outlines. There
is no need to add a restricted variant.
Comment 3 Alexandre Prokoudine 2017-07-11 10:32:12 UTC
Polygonal selection was designed to be part of Free Selection tool specifically to cover the cases where a mix of lasso and polygonal selection is desirable. Which is for any object that has both straight lines and curves. Which is probably half the objects surrounding us in real life.

OK.

But add or subtract selection, In the need for multiple operations will frequently press the Enter key.
This lead to frequent repetitive operations.

Previously, you can continue with other operations after the connection is made.
Now, one more step is to press the enter key.

If do not add new tool,
Improvements can be made in the options.

The options, Such as:
--Auto-Close
--End Before-Adjustable Nodes (Now this new feature)
-----------------------------------------------------
Enable the user to have the right to select.
This will not break the user's habits.

For reference only
Comment 7 SenlinOS 2017-07-18 02:13:30 UTC
My advice is to cancel the new features of the Free Selection Tool.
This new feature even hinders operation.
(Reason: There will be references when selecting, and no one will adjust the nodes after the connection.)
------------------------------------
This new feature is better for Cage-Transform-Tool.
(The connection and the mobile nodes do not take effect and only preview, and press Enter key to complete the operation.)

See: Bug 785781 , Double-click to close, this operation is acceptable.
