GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 784574
Description and Location fields of CUPS queues should be shown in printer list
Last modified: 2021-06-09 16:29:08 UTC
Each CUPS queue has a Description (Info) and a Location field where admins can put comments about printer properties and the place where the printer is located. In enterprise networks it is very useful to see these fields to find the correct printer.
We actually show the Location in the printer entries. We just hide it if it is empty. Maybe the description could be useful too but I'm not sure about required space since this is basically an arbitrary text. Felipe, could you have a look on this?
Created attachment 355082 [details] [review] printers: Add printer "Description" field When available, show the printer-info attribute in the printer entries.
(In reply to Felipe Borges from comment #2) > Created attachment 355082 [details] [review] [review] > printers: Add printer "Description" field > > When available, show the printer-info attribute in the printer > entries. With this we should discuss: 1. Should the description be shown? 2. In which position should the "Description" line be (under model? above location?) In any case, this patch includes this extra field as an initial proposal.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
