Hi there , i'm a part of Manjaro Linux Team and maintainer of Gnome edition .

I have compiled and added this 
https://github.com/manjaro/packages-extra/commit/6746d0502bfa4f99a66f8ade7ddc4a5e60c01686

from our repository to see if the double shell go off but without success , the only way to close gdm user shell seem to kill the process after user login .

I have missed anything ? If you need more info please tell me ..

You can pass --disable-user-display-server which will break Wayland but will give you one gnome-shell instance. It will, however, be running Xorg as root which is considered a less secure practice these days.

Hi , thank you for your reply .. My only intent is to reduce the ram usage in Gnome edition ( at the moment with gdm it is 800mb +/- and without the gdm user shell 600mb +/- ) .. at the moment i have add the command 

pkill -KILL -u gdm 

in the postlogin/default file to kill the process .

This have bad effects ? At the moment i see only the losing of autologin feature..

If user switching still works, then it should be fine as a workaround.
