https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/stable/shell-exit.html#suspend says that you can suspend your computer by holding down the Alt key and pressing the Power button in the system status menu.

There is another way that also works. Long-hold the Power key. The Power button will change into a Suspend button.

Also, on a laptop, closing the laptop lid will also suspend the laptop.

Oh, the help already mentions closing the lid so it's just the long-press that isn't mentioned.
