There are links in the bottom of the list archives [1], mostly in the footer, still “insecure” HTTP URLs are used. Most of them are redirected to HTTPS, so using HTTPS URLs would also save one request/redirect.

I'd say things should go to '//' instead of explicit 'http://' or 'https://'

Why? If there is a secure URL, use it [1]. Also, it saves one request.
