Right now it's not 100% which page is selected. This has some unfortunate consequences - it means that there isn't a strong hierarchy to the UI, which in turn means that it's hard to situate document-level versus page-level actions. In some cases, it isn't clear which page the rotate and crop actions will act on.

One way to resolve this would be to use a sidebar for switching between pages:

This creates opportunities for other UI improvements further down the line:

 * Page-level editing actions, using an action bar
 * Page numbering
 * A document-level "Start Again..." button, to replace the current new document button

The icon that's above "ready to scan" is just scanner-symbolic from adwaita-icon-theme.
