Description Yan Pashkovsky 2017-04-16 15:19:49 UTC
Test scenario:
 Install some gtk apps: leafpad, mousepad
 Select font DeJavu Sans Mono Book 10.5
 Save this settings, restart app
 Enter this text: "text_with_underscores"
 -> Underscore symbols are invisible!
 After opening text settings menu they become visible. If you select the string you will notice that underscore symbols will be under highlighted rectangle.

This bug affects every app which uses gtk framework for theming. E.G. Eclipse IDE (SWT toolkit with gtk backend) and Kate suffer too.

First I've reported this to libfreetype, but it's not libfreetype fault

I know it is probably frustrating for you, but: that font works just fine here, in bother gnome-terminal and in gedit, and displays visible underscores.
Comment 2 Yan Pashkovsky 2017-05-04 20:33:37 UTC
Have you tried mousepad? I've tried it in Gnome 3.20, Ubuntu 16.10, bug reproduces with Dejavu Mono 10.5

I've tried gnome-terminal, it works well with that font

What else can cause this bug?
