Description Adam Williamson 2017-04-13 22:12:25 UTC
openQA testing of the GNOME 3.24.1 update for Fedora 26 indicates there's a change in behaviour on the login screen. With 3.24.0 and all previous GNOMEs, the cursor does not appear on the login screen until the user moves the mouse. With 3.24.1, the cursor is immediately visible in the centre of the screen when GDM starts. Compare:

https://openqa.stg.fedoraproject.org/tests/96198#step/_graphical_wait_login/4 (before the update is installed)
https://openqa.stg.fedoraproject.org/tests/96198#step/_graphical_wait_login_2/5 (after the update is installed)

This doesn't really break anything, but it's an unexpected behaviour change, so I figured I'd mention it.

Guessing mutter
Comment 2 Adam Williamson 2017-08-31 20:37:51 UTC
Ping - anyone got anything on this one? It's pretty trivial, but it's now broken *two* openQA tests that I have to workaround :) It's definitely not GDM, because it also happens to gnome-initial-setup in the pre-GDM mode (when no user account exists).

Did https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/157 fix this?
Comment 4 Florian Müllner 2018-05-21 10:03:01 UTC
No, but it may very well have unbroken the tests (without knowing what those tests actually consist of). The commit didn't change *when* the cursor appears on the screen, but *where* - namely a position that won't affect the default selection in the user list.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
