Last lines of file cannot be seen

Sometimes, for some files whose contents do not fit within the window frame and thus can be scrolled, the last few lines do not appear in the view when scrolled to the end. Scrolling using either the pointing device or the keyboard makes no difference. However, if the text cursor is positioned at the end (using, e.g., Ctrl+End) (although the cursor and surrounding text are invisible at this time) and the Enter key is pressed, the end of the text comes into view (along with the new line fed by the Enter key) and then remains so. Alternatively, clicking the revert button also brings it into view, but, of course, reverts any other changes the user may have made.

The problem is very random and occurs for very few files, and then again, may not occur when loading the very same files in a future session. This makes it very hard to reproduce, but I have attached two screenshots (albeit with a different GTK theme, but it occurs irrespective of theme, font, etc.) showing the issue. It is very problematic to use the editor when one has to check every time to see if the loaded file's contents are fully visible.

You're using an unofficially supported theme. Does the issue occur during Adwaita, GNOME's default theme, the only supported theme?
Comment 3 George White 2017-08-15 16:14:05 UTC
Unsupported theme, not unofficially supported theme
Comment 4 Saurav Sengupta 2017-08-15 18:31:05 UTC
It occurs irrespective of theme, as mentioned in the OP, including the default Adwaita theme.

Sorry, I glossed over that bit. Hmmm. I can't seem to reproduce this bug. I'll leave it open in the meantime.

Try with files of various content lengths, and especially long ones containing source code (so that the content has to be scrolled). In my case it happens mostly with such files, with 1366x768 resolution, 9pt Monospace font, with the Gedit window maximized.
Comment 7 Andrea Vai 2017-08-21 09:18:01 UTC
I experience this bug when I open a text file sized 14 kB, 333 lines. The last 3 lines don't show up.

The workaround I found is simply set the focus on another window and get back to gedit: this allows scrolling down the last lines.

Using gedit 3.22.1 on Fedora 25.

I can confirm this bug.
3.22.1+1+gd21912e3e-1 from Arch repositories.

I can see lot of bugs marked as duplicate to this one but I dont see any fix coming for this. It really annoys me when I have to unmaximize and maximize the window for each file to check if I am really missing anything at the bottom of the file.
Any plan to fix this issue?

Mass-closing of all gedit bugzilla tickets.

Special "code" to find again all those gedit bugzilla tickets that were open before the mass-closing:

2bfe1b0590a78457e1f1a6a90fb975f5878cb60064ccfe1d7db76ca0da52f0f3

By searching the above sha256sum in bugzilla, the gedit contributors can find again the tickets. We may be interested to do so when we work on a specific area of the code, to at least know the known problems and possible enhancements.

We do this mass-closing because bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org.
