GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 778280
Bookmarks submenu in app menu is confusing
Last modified: 2017-02-08 18:50:59 UTC
Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 Alpha epiphany 3.23.5-0ubuntu0~ppa1 from the GNOME3 Staging PPA I installed the latest epiphany-browser and clicked around to see what changed. I clicked the app menu and clicked Bookmarks. There were only two entries: Import bookmarks and Export bookmarks. I became worried that the update deleted all my bookmarks. Eventually, I realized that the new starred book icon was where I needed to click to actually see my bookmarked websites. So this is a UI review request. 1. One idea would be to add to the Bookmarks submenu something like "View Bookmarks" that would close the appmenu and open the bookmarks popup button. That should be a strong hint to the user about where to click next time. 2. A different idea would be to move those 2 actions to the Bookmarks popup button. 3. Or hide those 2 actions in the Preferences dialog. (By the way, for consistency with other items in the app menu, "Import Bookmarks" and "Export Bookmarks" should have both of their words capitalized.)
(In reply to Jeremy Bicha from comment #0) > (By the way, for consistency with other items in the app menu, "Import > Bookmarks" and "Export Bookmarks" should have both of their words > capitalized.) Fixed this for now; didn't want to leave that open until we decide how to handle the larger issue....
My suggestion would be to simply move the import and export bookmarks items into the top level of the app menu.
Does that sound good Jeremy?
Yes, I like that better than a Bookmarks menu with no bookmarks. Thanks!
