Description pinkisemils 2017-01-30 01:19:24 UTC
After a fresh boot and about ~8 hours, some keyboard shortcuts stop working, such as the media keys for MPRIS enabled players and some shortcuts for extensions stop working. However, shortcuts for navigating between windows/workspaces, adjusting brightness and locking the screen still work. The bug is being experienced whilst running gnome-shell 3.22.2 on Xorg. There are no logs from GDM.

This could be related to DBus as this is occurring in an environment where the WiFi connection resets every 15 minutes, so DBus activates and deactivates a lot of services that deal with that all the time.

I was experiencing the same for quite some time; until recently - i have the feeling that the latest libinput updates have resolved this for me. However, I thought it was related to my wacom tablet - about the same time my custom shortcuts have stopped working, my wacom touch functionality stopped working too. do you perhaps use a wacom tablet?

No wacom tablet here, so can't tell if related or not.

Same here with an ordinary USB keyboard. All the standard keys plus these ones:
* volume down
* mute
* volume up
* previous
* play/pause
* next

the first three buttons keep working even after running gnome-shell for a long time. The latter stop working after some time.

Gnome 3.22 on Fedora 25 with wayland here. No Wifi, but regular screen locks and suspends.

Anyone seeing this bug too:
1. do you suspend or lock your screen often? I do (both)
2. have you ever seen this bug before suspending? I am not sure and will report back.
3. do you still see a "Unknown Artist / Unknown title" field in gnome-shell top center menu (press Super+M or click on the date)? I do
3.1. if you click on the prev/play/next buttons, does anything happen? In my case these buttons still work fine.
3.2. if you click on this title, does your media player open? In my case it does.

I'm seeing this issue with VLC 3.0 pre-release from RPMFusion.

1. I suspend and lock the screen often.
2. I guess, I will have to check.
3. I can get to the notification panel and see the mpris widget after the keyboard shortcuts have stopped working. The widget is functioning correctly.
Comment 5 Christian Stadelmann 2017-02-21 18:14:07 UTC
Oh, and I think there is another bug report for this kind of bug which applies to custom global shortcuts too, e.g. a shortcut to start my browser or terminal.

See also bug 758302.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
