GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 776638
Clipboard broken Wayland
Last modified: 2021-07-05 14:08:19 UTC
1. Paste in another app or process may take up to 1 minute, the target app is during this time frozen 2. Paste in another app or process may fail and do nothing - getaround: the text can be saved to a text file that is displayed in the same process as paste 3. Copy from GNOME Terminal may fail and have to be repeated 4. Cut in Visual Studio Code is executed 3 times and deletes unintended text - getaround: use copy + delete 5. Paste from visual studio code or Android Studio into LibreOffice Writer has character encoding problem, every character becomes two characters - getaround: paste-copy in gedit in between 6. Paste may not take place until a second paste is carried out in another app (ie. while the first app is frozen) - it appears the second paste is rerouted to the first app - gedit is a good second-paste app In some cases text can be drag-and-dropped insted of using the clioboard gedit may crash on drop 3.22.2
It’s also broken in-process, ie. pasting to same document, for LibreOffice Writer This is the worst bug in GNOME Shell as of 3.22.2 since crashes are now avoidable and one can live with the slowness for the time being
Behavior #6 is actually that the subsequent paste in app 2 is stolen by the frozen app 1 with a pending paste, and sometimes pastes to both apps If different content is pasted into app 2, then app 1 steals that new content
The GNOME/Wayland bug on which the most time is lost at present. Wayland clipboard never worked reliably In 3.22 it stopped crashing GNOME Shell, but is still unreliable
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
